PASTORAL CARE
Pastoral Counseling
You don’t have to carry it alone. Biblical wisdom meets
clinical experience in a safe, confidential setting.
OUR APPROACH
Truth That Meets You
Where You Are
Pastoral counseling at New Life isn’t about quick fixes or empty encouragement. It’s about getting to the root of what’s happening in your life, spiritually, emotionally, and relationally, and bringing Scripture to bear on the real issues you’re facing.
Dr. Carter brings over 30 years of pastoral ministry and more than 2,000 hours of supervised clinical pastoral training to every session. His approach integrates biblical truth with clinical sophistication, because some problems need more than a Bible verse and a prayer. They need wisdom, discernment, and someone who’s seen it before.

YOUR COUNSELOR
Dr. Carter
Dr. Carter holds a Doctorate in Ministry with a cognate in pastoral counseling, along with a Master’s in Theological Studies and a Bachelor’s in Religion. His clinical training includes four ACPE units and over 2,000 supervised clinical hours.
What sets his approach apart is the integration of deep biblical convictions with clinically trained intuition. He’s not just a pastor who reads psychology books. He’s a pastor who has sat with people in the darkest moments of their lives and helped them find their way forward.
Married for 27 years with four children, Dr. Carter doesn’t offer advice from a textbook. He offers wisdom from a life lived in the trenches of ministry, family, and faith.
THE PROCESS
What to Expect
Getting started is simple. Here’s how it works.
Reach Out
Contact us by phone, email, or book directly through our scheduling page. Tell us a little about what you’re going through. Everything is confidential.
Initial Conversation
Dr. Carter will schedule a brief phone conversation to understand your situation and determine if pastoral counseling is the right fit. If a referral would better serve you, he’ll tell you honestly.
First Session
Your first in-person session is about listening. Dr. Carter will hear your story, understand the full picture, and begin charting a path forward rooted in Scripture and practical wisdom.
Ongoing Support
Sessions are typically weekly or biweekly. The goal isn’t endless counseling. It’s equipping you with the clarity, tools, and faith to move forward with confidence.
COMMON QUESTIONS
About Counseling
Do I need to be a member to receive counseling?
No. Pastoral counseling is available to anyone in the community. You don’t need to attend or be a member of our church. Many of our counseling clients found us through a referral or online search.
Is this therapy or counseling?
Pastoral counseling is distinct from licensed professional therapy. Dr. Carter is an ordained pastor with extensive clinical training, not a licensed therapist. His approach integrates Scripture with clinical wisdom. If your situation requires licensed clinical care, he’ll refer you to an appropriate provider.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. What you share stays in the counseling relationship. The only exceptions are situations involving imminent danger to yourself or others, or legally mandated reporting.
How much does it cost?
Sessions are $125 each. You can book directly through our scheduling page below or by calling (970) 672-6351.
How long are sessions?
Sessions typically run 50 to 60 minutes. The first session may run a bit longer as we take time to fully understand your situation.
Can I bring my spouse?
Absolutely. Many of our counseling sessions involve couples. Marriage and relational issues are one of the most common areas we work with. Individual sessions are also available.
Dr. Carter didn’t just tell us what we wanted to hear. He told us what we needed to hear, and he did it with enough compassion that we could actually receive it. Our marriage is in a completely different place today.
